Golden Cleome, Yellow Cleome or Yellow Mouse-whispers
Cleome angustifolia
The Golden Cleome / Yellow Cleome is a delicate, open-branched herb with thin compound leaves. The yellow flowers have purple bases and distinctive protruding stamens.
The Golden Cleome is quite common along roadsides and in disturbed ground and is widespread.
The plant is eaten as a vegetable in many parts and is said to have two uses – as part of a meal and for its healing qualities of certain ills. The flower is pollinated by ants and other insects that feed on the pollen.
