Interested parties are invited to join the SANParks Honorary Rangers (HR) of the Counter Poaching and Rangers Support Services at the annual sunset serenade fundraising event to take place in June and September 2009 at the Kruger National Park's Letaba Rest Camp. According to the organisers, it will be a weekend of leisure, listening to the classical sounds of a few members of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra as well as taking in the exquisite views of Kruger.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this fundraising event will help procure equipment for field rangers like gas stoves, tents, ponchos, torches, binoculars, as well as sleeping bags that provide a bit of comfort for prolonged stays in the bush whilst following up information on poachers' activities.
Future funds will be used to purchase a thermal imager that detects poachers by means of heat during the day and night. Poachers are currently using archery to kill their prey which is silent and deadly.
