Writer Tim Condon is currently researching a book that will cover the history of lions from the early 1800s until the present day, in the 'Land of the Zulu' or KwaZulu-Natal. Due to be published next year, Condon is looking for stories or photos that will tell the tale of the region's lions and conservation history.
Using the lion as a central character, the "Zululand Lion Saga" intends to chronicle the rise and fall of the area's once abundant wildlife, and pay tribute to "those many dedicated people who have strived over the years to save Zululand's priceless wildlife heritage and those habitats that they depend on for their very survival."
Condon says, "I believe that the lesson learnt from all their endeavours, with heartbreaking failures and disappointments, but followed by triumphant successes should never be lost, but rather kept for guidance and a yardstick for future generations in an ever-changing climate of conflicting conservation agendas, hungry land claims and suspicious political ideals."
