The environmental impact assessment process is underway for the construction of a wellness centre with a boutique hotel and conference facilities for 180 people on the farm Guernsey just outside of Hoedspruit. The farm is the home of Kapama Lodge, an existing 20-room lodge that the developers are also hoping to expand into a 50-room lodge.
50 private homes on five hectares of land each are also planned to be included on the 2,678 ha farm. The existing workers' accommodation, guesthouses and managers house will each be placed on a separate erf. According to developer Attie Botha, they are "recreating the Timbavati [Private Nature Reserve] with first world services" and that the proposed development has a very low density.
Botha says that the wellness centre will be designed along the lines of top health spa resort Santé Winelands Hotel and Wellness Centre in the Cape. Beauty treatments and exercise facilities will be available.
The farm is part of the Kapama Game Reserve, but is separated from the largest section of the game reserve by a provincial dirt road.
