The impalas are lambing and summer rains are starting, but it is the end of the year for the pupils at the Skukuza Primary School who held their annual Merit Evening on November 16. Academic and sporting excellence was rewarded, and the new school watchdogs were announced in the form of the eight leaders for 2006.
Debbie English was a frequent visitor to the podium, winning the Dux trophy for best overall learner, best sports girl and the academic achievement trophy. Academic achievement trophies were also awarded to Jessica Zambatis, Katekani Hlungwane, Wouter du Toit and Bathabile Chakwane.
Blake Schraader was the best sports boy and Wouter du Toit won the prize for best progress in grade seven.
Next year pupils will have to look up to their new leaders - Nkateko Silinda, Daphne Nzima, Panacea Themba, Mlondi Mkhize, Jacques Meyer, Jessica Zambatis, Samantha Meyer and Venolia Stoffels. Teacher Sharon Gillespie praised the pupils, saying "Well done to all the children who achieved awards, you are the stars of the future."
