September is Heritage Month and the Ministry of Arts and Culture and Members of the Executive Councils (MECs) have adopted the theme: "Celebrating Our Living Heritage" as the focus of Heritage Month from 2004 to 2007.
"Living Heritage" means the intangible aspects of inherited culture and may include:
Cultural tradition, oral history, performance; ritual; popular memory; skills and techniques; indigenous knowledge system; approach to nature, society and social relationships; oral traditions and expressions, performing arts; social practices, rituals and festive events; knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe and traditional craftsmanship.
Within the context of the framework discussed above it has been decided that Heritage Month 2005 will focus on the subtheme 'Indigenous foods, our knowledge, our heritage'.
