African Adventure a South African National Parks supported initiative was awarded Best Production of a Play or a Musical for Children at the prestigious Naledi Theatre Awards ceremony held at Gold Reef City Casino in Johannesburg, on Monday, March 5, 2012.
This fresh, inspirational and humoristic family musical is set in the African bushveld where wildlife faces the ever present threat of poaching.
African Adventure the brain Child of Tracey Christelis, is a cleverly thought out production, which tells the story of Lynette the posh Giraffe, Malcolm the Funky monkey and Olivia the Ostrich 'diva' as they faced a terrifying quest to help their rhino friends Ricky and Rachael.
"When Tracey Christelis approached SANParks two years ago with a dream to teach children about conservation through the medium of theatre, we were immediately drawn to this new concept and gave it our full support", said Kevin Moore, SANParks Manager: Conservation Interpretation.
"Thanks to her professional and sincere commitment to this worthwhile cause, today, Paisley Productions in collaboration with SANParks received a coveted Naledi Theatre Award for which the Producer, Directors, cast, and support crew need to be truly congratulated and held in highest esteem" he said.
He further gave special thanks to the Honorary Rangers of Johannesburg Region, Alison Esterhuizen and Maureen Schuil who dedicated so many hours of their time to share their knowledge with the school groups that visited the theatre.
The Naledi Theatre Awards have been in existence for nine years as the premier awards system in South Africa for live performing arts. The awards aim to recognise and reward excellence in South African professional Live Theatre and the Performing Arts.
