Getting to Imbali Safari Lodge
Imbali Safari Lodge is situated near Hoedspruit in the Limpopo Province in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. It is a five and a half-hour drive from Johannesburg. It is best to enter through the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park. Should you be travelling from Nelspruit it is a two and a half-hour drive from Kruger Gate.
Directions from Johannesburg via the Orpen Gate
- From Johannesburg take the R21 highway towards Pretoria
- Just before Pretoria and take the N4 highway East
- Turnoff at Belfast and take the R540 towards Dullstroom and travel 37km (23 miles)
- At Dullstroom take the R540 towards Lydenburg and travel 43km (26 miles)
- At Lydenburg take the S36 towards Ohrigstad and travel 62km (38 miles)
- At Ohrigstad take the R527 towards Hoedspruit passing through the Strijdom Tunnel
- About 16km (10 miles) before Hoedspruit at the Swadini Reptile Centre, turn right onto the R531 towards Klaserie
- After approximately 30km (18.6 miles), turn left onto the Orpen Gate Road (R531)
- After 40km (25 miles) you will reach the Orpen Gate of the Kruger National Park
From the Orpen Gate, the lodge is about a 2 hour drive so please take note of gate closing times as you have to be at the lodge by gate closure times
- After entering the Orpen Gate travel for 22km (13.6 miles) on the H7
- Turn right on the S36 where you will see the signpost marked Imbali, Hamiltons, Hoyo-Hoyo with the exact distances
- After about 20km (12.5 miles) turn right on the S145 where it is signposted for Imbali and Hoyo-Hoyo
- After 3km (1.8 miles) turn left at the no entry sign
- Drive for 3.5km (2.17 miles) where you will reach a T-junction
- Turn left to Imbali Safari Lodge
Directions to the lodge from the Paul Kruger Gate
- Enter Paul Kruger Gate
- Proceed towards Skukuza for 15km (9.3 miles)
- From Skukuza take the H1-2 toward Satara for 32 km (20 miles)
- Turn Left onto R36 (Dirt Road)signs will read Imbali Safari Lodge/Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge/Hamilton’s Tented camp
- At T-junction turn left to S125 for 1km and then right onto S36
- Continue for a further 6km (3.7 miles)
- Turn left onto S145 for 3km (1.8 miles)
- At the signage for Imbali Safari Lodge and Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge turn left and travel for 4km (2.5 miles)
- At the T-Junction turn left and travel for about 1km (0.62 miles)
Flights
- There are flight options from both Johannesburg and Cape Town to Hoedspruit and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, as well as a private Charter to an airstrip near the lodge. Transfers to and from Hoedspruit, Nelspruit and the private airstrip can be arranged.
